Yvette Bouquet, from New Caledonia, is an autodidact artist whose development has been much influenced by local petroglyphs and other carvings in stone (some dating from many thousands of years ago) that are found on the Oceanic island on which she was born.
These influences can often be seen in Bouquet's work, as in the beautiful example above, which in describing the complex network of links occurring in human society, also makes reference to the wider interdependencies that exist between humans and many other creatures of the local environment.
The whole creates an effect that is at once ancient and modern.
