Francesco Rimondi, Future Perfect, 1999 - Private Collection.
Francesco Rimondi was born, in Addis Ababa, in1952, to an Italian father and an Ethiopian mother. He lived in Ethiopia until the age of nineteen when he first travelled to Bologna, to spend time with the Italian side of his family. After several years in Italy he moved to the south of France to take up residence in Aix-en-Provence, where he still lives and works today. He has also travelled extensively having spent time in Nepal, India, Malaysia, Africa, Italy, Mexico and Arizona and the influence of these many places and cultures finds subtle expression in his work.
Influenced by the cosmopolitan tastes
of a decidedly artistic family his interest in painting began when he was still
very young and continues to form an important part of his ouevre today.
Another significant part of that oeuvre comprises a series of sculptures,
painstakingly composed of found objects that include everything from old watches
to the innards of computers and other discarded machines. The fantastically
diverse components are carefully wrought into surprisingly beautiful compositions
suggestive of alien life-forms or the extravagant and whimsical playthings of
an unknown yet seemingly sophisticated technology.
