Quarter Century of the Transvangarde:
The October Gallery celebrates twenty-five years of exhibiting
the finest in contemporary art from around the planet.

Gerald Wilde: Intelligence Now
For the final show of 2004, and the first of 2005, the October Gallery will present work by artists of the Transvangarde, some of the finest artists from around the planet representing the trans-cultural avant-garde. This exciting exhibition of artists with whom the October Gallery has worked during the last twenty-five years wil be supported by a Seminar on the Transvangarde, Fireworks - an evening of poetical invention, Dance Up Close, a series of performances and talks relating specifically to dance and a diverse series of talks, film shows and events. This ongoing programme of events during the months of November and December will help celebrate the achievements of an amazing quarter of a century of artistic innovation from around the world.
Besides the work of artists that the Gallery has been promoting from 1979 to the present Intelligence Now! will come right up to date by starting out in some exciting new directions in the field of digital media, introducing the work of the kinetic light sculptor Paul Friedlander and installations by the pioneer video and visual artists Steina and Woody Vasulka.

The October Gallery will be participating as one of the organisers of the the Africa 2005 series of events and exhibitions taking place throughout the capital in 2005 - and is planning a four eparate exhibitions that will present the very best of current contemporary art from around the African continent. Artists to be shown will include latest work by El Anatsui (West Africa) a showing of work by the Algerian artist Rachid Koraichi, and new work by the South African artist Sandile Zulu.
