XU ZHONG MIN AND YE YONG QING 'IN DIALOGUE.' 
29th MAY – 28th JUNE 1997

A "dialogic exchange" between two Chinese artists who attended the same arts academy in Southern China. Ye Yong Qing now teaches at this institution while Xu Zhong Min is living and working in the UK. The exhibition was presented on the occasion of the return of Hong Kong, by the United Kingdom, to the People's Republic of China .

KEEPERS OF THE MIMI SPIRIT:  
ABORIGINAL ART FROM ARNHEM LAND

4th SEPTEMBER – 4th OCTOBER 1997

Art from Australia's "top-end." Work from Arnhem land is distinguished by its use of  delicate cross-hatching techniques and the representation of the mimi spirits, spirit ancestors of the Kwinjku and other Aboriginal peoples that inhabit the desert plateaux of this harsh northern land.

YORUBA DIASPORAS II: ANCESTRAL SIGNS

This exhibition looks at signs as ancestral iconographic forms, exploring ways in which some contemporary Yoruba artists use highly geometric and patterned work to reference and reinvent their ancient sign language. Work by Osi Audu, LeRoy Clarke, Mestre Didi and James Phillips.
